With FMCS assistance, Cleveland Schools and Teachers Reach Innovative Agreement

Release Date: 6/4/2013

With the committed assistance of FMCS mediators Jenifer Flesher and Matt Cockcroft over several months of negotiation, representatives of the Cleveland (Ohio) Teachers Union and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District reached an innovative collective bargaining agreement to resolve pending labor issues, several of which related to teacher performance.

Both sides described the agreement as a vital step in transforming Cleveland schools and providing quality education for Cleveland students.

In a statement quoted in news accounts, School Board Chairman Denise Link called the three-year contract a "ground-breaking agreement."

"This agreement will play a significant role in transforming Cleveland's schools and building on the culture of collaboration that has been so essential to our progress this year," the school board chairman was quoted as saying.
