With assistance from a federal mediator, the New York Racing Association (NYRA) reached a tentative agreement with the union representing workers at Belmont Park, averting a potential strike. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called on the NYRA and Local 3 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to bring an end to two years of contentious negotiations, which was achieved in the early morning just two days before the highly anticipated Belmont Stakes race.
